My name is Teegan Purrington, and I’m a chimera. And I bet you are one too. Here’s why.

Aside from the Greek mythological beast, the Collins English Dictionary defines Chimera as:

  • A fabulous beast made up of parts taken from various animals
  • A wild and unrealistic dream or notion
  • An organism consisting of at least two genetically different kinds of tissue.

No, I’m not calling us animals or a monsters. Nor am I referring to biological chimeras. I’m talking less literally. What I mean is that I am a person made up of different interests, dreams, and passions. I love to write, I love to create artistic things, and I love science. I read fantasy books and watch action movies, I like fuzzy blankets, gardening, and good cheese. I love God. My family, and friends. I love to travel and want to see more of the world. And I have the wild dream of being a published author of the stories I have been writing for years.

Everyone has different interests. Occupation, hobbies, dreams, family and friends, faith, and interests. It’s what makes us interesting, well-rounded people. The conglomeration of things that we like are what make us who we are. It makes us unique, like the creature of Greek mythology. But unlike that beast, we are not monstrous. We are beautiful.

How do you know if you’re a chimera? Well, you like more than one thing. Chances are, you do. And if you’re not partial to the term chimera, you can think of yourself as a mosaic instead–a beautiful piece of art made from different pieces of colorful glass or tile.

What sorts of things do you like or do that make you a chimera or mosaic? Do they seem like opposites, like my love for art and science? Or are they harmonious, like my love for writing and reading?

Hello world!

Welcome to my blog, Chimera Muses! This is my first post here. Once I get everything up and running, I’ll begin posting more.

Hope to see you again!
